To further refine his surgical expertise, Dr. Swanson pursued an advanced dermatologic and Mohs surgery fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.

Over the years, Dr. Swanson has held prestigious leadership roles, including:

• Chair of the Department of Dermatology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU)
• Associate Director for Clinical Operations at the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute
• Professor of Dermatology, Otolaryngology, and Surgery at OHSU
• Director of Dermatologic Surgery at OHSU since 1989, leading innovative treatment programs
• Former head of the Surgical Unit and Multidisciplinary Melanoma Program at the University of Michigan

A board-certified dermatologist through the American Board of Dermatology, Dr. Swanson is also an esteemed member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Dermatology Foundation. His expertise in Mohs surgery has played a pivotal role in the treatment of high-risk and complex skin cancer cases, and he has mentored 35 fellows who have gone on to lead in academic and clinical settings worldwide.

Beyond his medical achievements, Dr. Swanson is an internationally recognized author and lecturer, having contributed to over 200 journal articles, multiple textbooks, and numerous textbook chapters. His knowledge extends to cosmetic dermatology, with specialized skills in laser surgery, dermabrasion, chemical peels, filler injections, and Botox treatments.

When not engaged in patient care, research, or medical education, Dr. Swanson enjoys a balanced lifestyle in Missoula, MT, where he embraces country living. His passions include western riding, golfing, fishing, and spending time with his five grandchildren and their families.
